Student Health Services

MHS provides medical, dental, psychological, behavioral, and social work services for students while on campus. A licensed social worker serves as the coordinator of Student Health Services for all students within each division and connects students with the variety of health services available to them.

Medical Services

Medical Room The Medical staff of pediatricians, registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, a pre-enrollment coordinator, staff assistants, a medical claims analyst, and a health systems manager provides medical care for students, including health screenings, physicals/sports assessments, immunizations, health education, and administration of medications. The Medical program offers services 24 hours a day at the Health Center , and during each weekday at the Copenhaver Medical Clinic as well as in each school building.

Dental Services

Dental Room The Dental program provides preventative and corrective care in an environment designed to build trust between dental staff and students. The Dental staff includes a pediatric dentist, along with a team of dental hygienists, dental assistants, orthodontists, and a secretary.

Nutrition

A registered dietician works closely with the Food Service department in menu planning, food selection, and student home and dining hall nutrition programs. The dietician also provides food and nutrition education, as well as nutrition assessment and care for students who have weight problems, food allergies/intolerances, medical problems requiring nutrition intervention, and other dietary issues.

Psychological Services

Credentialed professionals, including psychologists, psychotherapists, behavioral specialists, and mental health workers help students gain a realistic understanding and appreciation of their many intellectual, social, emotional, and physical strengths in order to achieve happiness and success. A comprehensive array of services including individual and group therapy, evaluation, counseling, medication management, and crisis intervention.

Behavioral Services

Behavioral Services staff provide support and direct skill-building opportunities to promote positive student behavior. Skills Centers provide a temporary placement and learning opportunity for disruptive or distraught students while preserving the learning environment of the classroom. After-school programs are designed to develop academic, social, and self-management skills.

Mental Health workers provide one-to-one skill development and support for student behavior in school, at student homes, and at the Health Center. The Crisis Intervention Team also provides behavioral support to struggling students. Therapeutic camps are offered during the summer to help students build social and emotional skills. Additionally, consultations and training are available for houseparents, teachers and other adults who work closely with students.

Social Work Services

The Social Work program provides a variety of services to students, including transition services to help students locate medical, counseling, and specialized educational programs and psychosocial assessments. Licensed social workers assist students who are receiving public service programs, such as cash assistance, medical assistance, and Social Security benefits.

Social workers also serve as a link between the School and child welfare agencies, families, and courts to assure that students' legal guardian status is honored. If a student has a disability or special need outlined in an Accommodation/ADA Plan, social workers are part of the team that ensures the student receives the necessary assistance.
