Middle School Program

Children 02 The middle school, Catherine Hall, includes students in grades five to eight. Our goal for Middle Division students is to ease the transition to early adolescence and give them the necessary skills to be successful in the Senior Division.

Literacy and mathematics are emphasized at the middle school level. Student academic growth is measured quarterly and lessons are modified to meet the needs of each student. Students are engaged in extension projects with the Agriculture & Environment Education program in all grades, which reinforces classroom learning with hands-on lessons.

Activities help students discover their individual talents. Middle Division offers a variety of arts programs including chorus, band, jazz band, handbells, drama, and dance. Some of the programming is scheduled in the morning to allow students the opportunity to play a sport after school. Students elect to be involved in sports or an activity program for two hours each day after school. Programs include Geocaching, Horsemanship, Latino Club, football, dance, Tae Kwon Do, soccer, and cheerleading.

Career education is emphasized to prepare the students for Senior Division. Students explore the world of work through guest speakers, field trips, and job shadowing opportunities. Students also can participate in the Learn, Work, and Earn program as 8th-graders during the summer.

Finally, monthly health and wellness education programs include topics such as dental care, diet and exercise, maintaining a positive body image, diabetes, social skills, and standing up for others. The emphasis at the middle school is on development of the whole child and giving each student a variety of experiences.
