Milton Hershey School President Dr. Anthony Colistra has been named a 2012 recipient of Shippensburg University's Jesse S. Heiges Distinguished Alumnus Award. The university's highest award recognizes alumni for distinguished and outstanding achievements in their field for the benefit of the community and society.
The Jesse S. Heiges Distinguished Alumnus Award was established in 1959 through gifts from Ralph and Jesse G. Heiges to honor their father, Shippensburg's first dean of instruction from 1901 to 1934.
"I am thrilled to be recognized by my alma mater. It is an exceptional group of individuals who have received this award. I am humbled and honored to be among them," said Colistra.
Dr. Colistra is entering his fourth year as President and is also an alumnus of Milton Hershey School ('59). His presidency comes after serving in a variety of positions in public education including guidance counselor and principal. For six years, he served as Superintendent of Cumberland Valley School District. During that time, he was named Superintendent of the Year for the Council for Public Education.
Colistra graduated from Shippensburg University in 1963 with a BS in Education and received his Master's in Guidance and Counseling in 1976. He received his Ed.D. from Temple University in 1975.
Colistra has also served as a director and past chair of the Hershey Trust Company and MHS Board of Managers, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, and MS Hershey Foundation. He is a past member of the College Education and Human Services Advisory Board.
