Milton Hershey School hosts 78th Annual Homecoming

Thursday, September 25, 2008

Welcome-home events for Milton Hershey School's (MHS) returning alumni will be held October 3-5 to mark the occasion of the School's 78th Annual Homecoming.

Highlights exclusively for alumni on Friday include Alumni in the Arts Exhibit; and open houses at the School's Spartan Commons school buildings, the Dearden House, and Kinderhaus—home to the School's History Department.

The fifth annual Spartan Hall of Fame induction ceremony and reception will be held Friday afternoon in Founders Hall Auditorium and the Clyde Stacks Visual Arts Center Gallery.

Established in 2003 by MHS, this honor acknowledges the creative talent, athleticism, and dedication of MHS graduates and current and retired staff members. A "Welcome Home" picnic on Friday and a pre-game luncheon on Saturday for alumni and their guests are also planned. On Saturday evening, a Homecoming program and banquet will be held at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center for alumni and their guests. On Sunday morning following the Memorial Grove Service, there will be a Sunday brunch and reception honoring and welcoming the newest honorary members of the MHS Alumni Association.

Saturday afternoon at 1:30 PM, the MHS Spartan football team will challenge the Susquenita Blackhawks in the Homecoming football game at Henry Hershey Field.

Public events on Sunday, Oct. 5, begin at 8:00 AM with a Graveside Memorial Service at the Hershey Cemetery, where the 2008 Alumnus of the Year Gerry Ballough '76 and alumni will pay tribute to Milton and Catherine Hershey. A number of MHS alumni clergy and members of the MHS family will participate in the MHS Chapel Service at 9:00 AM in Founders Hall Chapel (Auditorium). And, a Memorial Grove Service memorializing those MHS alumni who have passed away since last year's Homecoming will be held at 10:10 AM at the Memorial Grove Pavilion.
