11 MHS Career Technical students advance to National Competitions

Recently, 11 Milton Hershey School high school students placed first in statewide competitions sponsored by Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and SkillsUSA and advance to national competitions to be held this summer.

HOSA is a national student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Technology Education Division of ACTE. Its two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance delivery of quality health care to all people.

MHS students who placed first in the HOSA state competition and will compete nationally June 18-21 in Dallas, TX, include: Junior Carolyn Jolisa Crawford, who placed first in the dental terminology contest; Juniors Mikzelic Miles and Joshua Nyarko, who placed first in the career health display contest; Seniors Ciera King and Ashlei Queen, who placed first in the EMT contest; and Seniors Nensha Kamara, Nicole Rehberg, and Rosemary Savage, who placed first in the medical reading contest.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry representatives, working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. It is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations.

Junior Talijah Charles placed first in the SkillsUSA state competition for extemporaneous speaking, while Senior Alex Heider and Junior Brad Datko earned top honors in the TV/video production contest. The three students will travel to SkillsUSA national competition in Kansas City, MO, the end of June.

Milton Hershey School participation in programs like HOSA and SkillsUSA is part of its ongoing commitment to career learning.
