MHS to offer free presentation of "The Sound of Music"

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Milton Hershey School will offer free admission to its Spring Family Weekend family-friendly musical production, The Sound of Music, on Saturday, May 10 in the Founders Hall Auditorium at 7:00 PM.

Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis for this public event.

The longest running Broadway musical of the early 1960s, The Sound of Music marked the last collaboration between composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist/librettist Oscar Hammerstein II.

Based partially on Maria Von Trapp's autobiography, the show was written for Mary Martin. The Sound of Music includes a remarkable number of popular songs: "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things," "Climb Ev?ry Mountain," "Do-Re-Mi," and "Edelweiss."

Students from elementary, middle, and high school will be featured in the program directed by MHS Drama Instructor Janice Stewart. Music Teacher Cristal Sheaffer is vocal music director, and Teacher/Band Director Tim Stephan will lead the pit band.

Under the direction of Instructional Theater Technician Scott MacDonald, MHS students built the set, while Design Instructor Janell Berte worked with the MHS costume design students in sewing costumes.
