MHS students inducted into National Honor Society

Friday, February 8, 2008

Five Milton Hershey School (MHS) high school students were inducted recently into the National Honor Society at a special ceremony held in Founders Hall on the MHS campus. Induction activities took place during a recent all-school Sunday Chapel Service.

Only juniors and seniors who have a minimum cumulative scholastic average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the previous two marking periods are eligible for National Honor Society membership.

A panel of five MHS teachers considers the scholarship, character, leadership, and service qualities of the eligible students through both their personal experiences and input from each of the student's teachers and houseparents. The committee then recommends candidates for induction, which occurs after the first and third marking periods.

"Induction into the MHS Chapter of the National Honor Society is a true honor," High School Teacher and National Honor Society Advisor Sharon Henry said. "Because we're a residential school, we consider student behavior both inside and outside the school building. We look at the total person."

The inductees included senior Shakiera Daniel; and juniors Stephanie Brooks, Edward Choi, Ashley Lloyd, and Alexander Ortiz.

Including the most recent inductees, the School's Chapter of the National Honor Society currently consists of 14 members.
