The health and wellness of our students is a major priority at MHS. Nationwide, childhood obesity affects 17 percent of all children and adolescents -- triple the rate from just one generation ago.

Obesity is the result of eating too many calories and not getting enough physical activity. At MHS, we recognize the impact this has on the children we serve. Increasingly, we are seeing health problems, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol in our students as well as changes in behavior associated with eating unhealthy foods.

MHS provides adequate nutritious meals and snacks and regular, quality physical activity for children and teens to grow and develop normally. Our students learn about healthy, balanced diets, proper hydration, age-appropriate food portions, and the importance of exercising regularly.

Leisure screen time (includes TV, video games and computer) is limited to two hours or less per day. In addition, MHS has removed sugary drinks and less healthy food from our campus and significantly lowered the fat and salt in our menus and recipes.
