Opening New Doors
for Children Since 1909

So, what is Milton Hershey School anyway?

Milton Hershey School is a private residential school for children pre-kindergarten through 12th grade who come from a family of low income, limited resources, and social need.

It is located in the rural community of Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Wait, residential school? When do I get to see my child?

The students live in a home environment with 8-12 other students and experienced houseparents to provide guidance, structure, and support.

Children are enrolled at the school year round, but travel home for holidays, family activities, and summer vacation.

What’s so special about
this school?

Milton Hershey School provides children with everything they need to become successful and responsible. Students discover their talents through programs in music, sports, dance, and drama. Our facilities are second to none, and our caring and competent adults are dedicated to helping kids develop character and reach their potential.

Sounds good, now what’s the cost?

The school is completely funded through the Milton Hershey School Trust and requires no tuition from students.

In addition to an outstanding education, your child will be provided with a safe home, meals, clothing, and quality healthcare. Students also have the opportunity to earn a post-secondary school scholarship funded by MHS.

It’s free, why would someone be so generous?

In the early 1900’s, Chocalatier Milton S. Hershey and his wife Catherine saw the need to provide quality education for orphan boys.

Today the school is open to boys and girls alike and has successfully helped 18,000 students since 1909.
